Prana Cultivation: Harnessing the Rivers of Energy
Bandhas are powerful energy seals that are used to harness the river of prana within the body. By cultivating that energy, it can be stored and used more consciously. Bandhas are the building blocks for physical asanas, and are powerful tools for deepening meditation, opening the chakras and awakening the kundalini power along the spine from the root to the crown. Bandhas can be used for healing many common physical ailments such as back pain, knee surgeries, migraines and digestive disorders. Much of western yoga focuses on the gross physical anatomy, the bandhas work with both the gross physical body and the subtle energetic primordial body, the deep muscles that tone the pelvis and core and create flexibility in the spine. These deeper muscles have a profound effect on the nervous system, bringing deep states of relaxation as well as building prana and chi.
In the oldest hatha yoga text, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, bandhas are used to loosen blockages called granthis (knots). These knots are complex clusters of physical, emotional and psychological issues and traumas. These knots are often subconscious habit energies to protect the self (ego) from early or ongoing traumas. The bandhas help to release these knots so that we can expand, heal and evolve.
This workshop is for all levels from beginners to advanced practitioners.
The Heart of Breathing
Prana/ Inhale =Life
Yama/ Exhale =Death
Within each breath cycle is represented the complete cycle of life, the inhale is new birth and the exhale is death. The inhale is the feminine shakti active principle and the exhale is the masculine shiva witness principal. By learning to work with these energies, we create balance within ourselves, by coming into harmony with the primordial elements of Nature. Pranayam is the science of breath, and breath is life. There are breathing techniques to be more energized, to be more relaxed and to open the chakras. Different breathing techniques create profoundly different emotional states and brain patterns. By studying our breath, we also study the nature of our minds, our thoughts and deep seated emotions. Breath is also the key to concentration and deep states of consciousness, meditation, trance and bliss. Breath expands awareness from the physical body to the causal body and opens the lotus (astral) body.
Beginning and advanced yoga practitioners will benefit from a deeper understanding of the philosophy and practice of pranayam.
In this workshop we will practice:
